Buckwheat Hull Mulch

Natural, elegant and eco-friendly soil cover.

Buckwheat hull mulch is made from the outer shells of buckwheat seeds – a natural by-product of food production. It is a light, breathable and fully organic mulch that enriches the soil while keeping the garden looking beautifully neat.

🌿 Benefits:

  • Retains soil moisture and reduces the need for frequent watering.
  • Suppresses weeds by forming a dense, airy layer.
  • Improves soil structure as it gradually decomposes and turns into humus.
  • Does not acidify the soil, making it ideal for tulips, roses, peonies, and most perennials.
  • Protects plant roots from overheating in summer and from frost in winter.
  • Eco-friendly and sustainable, perfect for organic gardens.
  • Visually appealing, with a natural dark brown tone that enhances both modern and rustic garden styles.

🍓 Proven results with strawberries:

Observations show that buckwheat hull mulch works exceptionally well for strawberries.

Mulched beds remain clean, weeds barely sprout, and a single mulching lasts 2–3 years.

Most importantly, the berries stay perfectly clean, since the mulch surface stays dry even after rain – a unique advantage no other mulch can match.

🌱 Application:

Spread a 5–7 cm thick layer on slightly moist soil.

Because of its light texture, the mulch can be blown by wind, so it’s best to water immediately after spreading or apply just before rain.

Buckwheat hulls can also be used to improve heavy clay soil – simply spread a 10 cm layer over the surface and dig it into the soil to increase aeration and loosen its structure.
